Hannah'

When Hannah was young, she would often wake up in the middle of the night to her

father's voice. He would be yelling at her mother, breaking dishes, and punching holes in
the wall. Hannah was scared for herself and her mother; she was worried her mom would
get hurt.
Hannah's dad drank alcohol. The more he drank, the
angrier he would become. Some nights, Hannah
would hide in the basement. Other nights, she ran
s Stor away to her friend's house. One time she was so
scared that she had her friend's father pick her up.
Hannah's father ultimately sought therapy to control
his anger. Her parents also went to marriage counsel-
ing. Although Hannah's father continues to abuse
alcohol, which causes him to become angry, he is now
able to control his temper. Hannah no longer needs
to hide in the basement or run away to her friend's
house. She feels safe at home.

Anna had just graduated from high school. She was celebrating with friends at a
graduation party when she was sexually assaulted. She knew the person who
attacked her; she was friends with him.
Anna was sad at first, and didn't no how to move on. She had problems trusting peo-
ple, and particularly men. Her life had forever changed.
With the support of her family and friends, Anna was eventually able to find strength
s
Stor and courage. She wrote a book to share her story with others and raise awareness
about domestic abuse. She hopes her book will help other survivors and perhaps help
to end violence against women.
