Christian Bale Workout Routine and Diet Plan Christian Bale has had quite an amazing run through Hollywood. I first remember seeing Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. His body was absolutely chiseled for that role. Then a couple years later, he practically starved himself, losing 60lbs+, for his role in the Machinist. Not more than a year later he starred in Batman Begins, adding significant bulk. He leaned out a little for Dark Knight but has since lost a lot of weight again for his role in The Fighter. Christian Bale Machinist Diet Christian Bale literally lost 1/3 of his weight for the Machinist, going from 185lbs to 120lbs. He wasn’t on any special diet or exercise program. He simply reduced eating to a minimum. Supposedly he had nothing but coffee, cigarettes, and an apple each day. He exercised but avoided weightlifting. His goal was to eliminate all fat from his body. After losing 40lbs, he received medical advice on how unhealthy his weight loss was. Despite that, Bale wanted to, and did, lose 20 more pounds. His dedication in sacrificing his health for this role was uncanny. Christian Bale Batman Workout and Diet Shortly after filming for the Machinist ended, Christian Bale took on the role of Batman. A 6’ 120lb Batman certainly wasn’t going to work so he had to add a significant amount of muscle mass. However, as a crime fighting superhero, Batman needed to maintain speed and agility while having a lean, muscular look. Despite only having a short time to prepare, Christian Bale’s workout routine and diet allowed him to achieve the superhero look. Christian Bale’s workout for Batman consisted of compound, explosive exercises. He performed, power cleans, jump squats, high pulls, and explosive bench press. These exercises helped maintain Batman’s speed and agility. Some other good compound exercises include squat, deadlift, and military press. Bale’s workout also included running each day to ensure that he did not put on too much fat. Christian Bale’s diet for Batman helped him pack on a lot of muscle mass. It’s rumored he gained close to 100lbs. To do so, he ate every 2-3 hours and made sure each meal contained quality protein, carbs, and fats. Christian Bale Fighter Transformation After starring as John Connor in Terminator Salvation, Bale has since transformed himself yet again. In the Fighter, Bale plays Dicky Eklund, a boxer who became a cocaine addict. Bale is once again a shadow of his former self. It’s unknown whether he is using a similar hardcore approach to dieting as the Machinist. It’s unlikely he’s going to that extreme since he realized how unhealthy his weight was for the Machinist.
