double tribute to Thebans
Amphitryon died fighting in the battle and he received his oldest daughter Megara for
bravery from Creon
Marriage with Megara
He had three sons with Megara
He obtained a sword from Hermes, a bow from Apollo, a golden breastplate from
Hephaistos and a robe from Athena
Hera's jealousy drove him mad
He threw his children into a fire with two of his brother's sons
He went into exile afterward and went to serve Eurystheus for twelve years to
accomplish the ten labor
*
The First Labor: The Nemean Lion
The Nemean Lion was invulnerable
Came to Cleonai and was a guest by Molorchos and Molorchos wanted to sacrifice a victim
He told him to hold on the sacrifice for 30 days
If he returned alive, make a sacrifice fit for a god
If he died, make a sacrifice for himself fit for a hero
Heracles found out the beast was invulnerable and took out his club
He drove it into a cave with two entrances and blocked one entrance
He choked it in a headlock
Heracles sacrificed the victim to Zeus
Eurystheus was frightened by Heracles' courage and had him display his labors from the
gates of the city
*
The Second Labor: The Lernaian Hydra
The Hydra had 9 heads, 8 mortal and 1 immortal
The heads would regenerate when cut off
Hera sent a crab to help the Hydra
After he killed the crab, his nephew Iolaos set fire to the roots so the heads could not
regenerate

the road from Lerna to Elaious

Pholos was afraid to open the communal jar when he asked for wine

with fire and the rest with his bow
They fled to the home of Cheiron and Heracles shot an arrow that eventually got lodge
in his knee

Cheiron went to his cave and wanted to die, but couldn't due to his immortality
*
Prometheus offered to take his immortality to Zeus and Cheiron died

*
Heracles buried him afterward
Heracles chased it from a thicket via shouting
He forced it into deep snow and lassoed it
*
The Fifth Labor: The Cattle of Augeias
Augeias, king of Elis and son of Helios, had many herds of cattle
Not knowing that Eurystheus ordered him to do it, he made a promise to give Heracles
1/10th of the cattle as payment
He made a hole in the stable, and made an outlet from the rivers Alpheios and Peneios to
divert the water there
Augeias denied ever making the promise, and brought it to court, but because his son
testified against him, he made them depart from Elis before the vote was cast
The House of Dexamenos
Heracles came to Olnes to this house and found the man being forced to engage his
daughter to the Centaur Eurytion

Hippolyte promised to hand over the war-belt
However, Hera disguised herself and told her the strangers meant to abduct the Queen
Heracles killed Hippolyte and took the war-belt
Troy
Apollo and Poseidon tested the insolence of Laomedon
They built him walls, but he refused to pay them
So Apollo sent a plague and Poseidon sent a sea monster
The oracles said if he set out his daughter as food the misfortunes would stop

given for compensation of the kidnapping of Ganymedes
He refused to pay so he threatened he would make war at Troy

weapons, he could take him
So he choked the beast to death, and took it and returned

He wrestled with Acheloos and took off one of his horns when he changed into a bull
He married her, and Acheloos got his horn by trading it for the horn of Amaltheia
