Important Info

For the third year in a row Gimnasia will face the 2nd leg of the promotion playoffs after
losing the 1st one.
In 2009 they had lost 3-0 and when the 85th minute of the 2nd leg came it and they were only
winning 1-0 it looked like they were relegated, but somehow they scored two more goals
and stayed in 1st division.
In 2010 things were a little easier because they only lost 1-0 in the first game and then won
3-1 in the 2nd.
This year, again, they lost the 1st one only by one goal, so any kind of win will be enough for
them to stay, while a draw or another defeat would relegate them for the first time in 25
years.
Striker Claudio Graff left the 1st game injured and he couldn't recover fast enough so he
will be replaced by Jorge Cordoba, who has been a regular in few games this year.

San Martin didn't play a good 1st leg but they took a deserved 1-0 lead and now they need only a
draw to play in 1st division for the 2nd time in club history (the first one was in the 2006/2007
season).
Coach Daniel Garnero will use offensive midfielder Federico Poggi, who was on the bench
in the 1st game because he wasn't 100% recovered from a minor injury, in the starting
lineup replacing Damian Canuto, and that will be the only change of the team that started
last Sunday.

They would have needed to win by a bigger margin, but at least they won so mood is good.

Analysis
There were no 1st division team /2nd division team differences in the 1st leg, where Gimnasia
looked comfortable while it was tied, and was never desperate either with the 1 goal defeat
because they know that they only need to win in the 2nd leg to win the promotion playoffs for the
3rd year in a row.
In 2009 and 2010 they lost the 1st leg away and later won the 2nd leg, and from what was seen in
the 1st leg of this game, Gimnasia looks like a favourite to stay in 1st division because San Martin

was only able to dominate for a few minutes in the 2nd half but mostly they were not really close
to score the 2nd goal.
Gimnasia is a poor team and nothing is easy for them, but San Martin didn't look solid in the 1st
leg either so a home win that will leave Gimnasia in 1st division would be a normal result.

1-0 Gimnasia, they have some experience in this kind of finals and a leader like Guillermo
Barros Schelotto (who will retire after this game) on the field could make a difference for them.
