Concurrent Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia in Thalassemia

Hemolysis is chronic and extra vascular in most inherited hemoglobinopathies1. Occurrence of acute hemolysis in congenital hemolytic anemia is rare. Increased frequency of transfusion requirement in an otherwise stable, transfusion dependent hemolytic anemia should alert the physician for another cause. A case of concurrent autoimmune hemolytic anemia in a child with thalassemia is presented.
