Cross-cultural Currents in the Theatre: China and the West

0.00 (0 votes)
Document Description
The West, seeking to reintegrate the various theatrical elements into a synthetic whole, found a living example of the fusion of action, music, dance and mime in the traditional Chinese theatre. The Chinese, on the other hand, found themselves fascinated by the emotional sweep and entrancing effects of the realism imported from the West. Cross-cultural currents have their own intriguing ways. Despite the progress in world communication, exoticism still plays an important role in man's imagination and aesthetic judgment.
