What Is A EIN Number?
The (EIN) or employer identification number is a nine digit number (for example, xx-
xxxxxxx) issued to sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships, estates, trusts and other
types of entities for filing taxes and for the purpose of reporting tax information to the
IRS. The EIN number provided by the IRS and is used to create your business tax ac-
count.

al tax purposes. The EIN number is like a Social Security number but for businesses.

Additional Ways
Before the IRS updated their website in 2007 you could apply for an EIN by any of the
following three ways: (these options are still available today and you can refer to IRS
website for more information)
1.
Telephone: speak to a live of IRS agent and receive an EIN immediately. The only
negative with this option is the hold times to be 30 minutes to an hour when call vol-
umes are high and then there’s always the intimidation factor of speaking live to any-
one at the IRS.
2.
Fax: after obtaining a form SS-4 that contains all the required information for
physically applying for and EIN you can fax the completed form to the IRS and a return
fax will be sent to the fax number you provide in the form with your new EIN within one
week or four (4) business days.
3.
Mail: the average processing time for an EIN application sent by mail is four
weeks.
Costly Mistakes And Errors To Avoid
1.
Not having the required information on hand to be able to fill out the online ap-
plication correctly
2.
Discovering a mistake made after the application has been submitted which will
void your application and EIN number requiring you to mail in the changes setting your
processing time back 4-6 weeks (DON’T DO THIS)
3.
Allowing your session time to expire because you do not have the correct infor-
mation on hand requiring you to start the process over again
For more formation on how to correctly start and complete the online application pro-
