Enjoy Sun, Sea and Sand in a beautiful tropical island

West and south coast Beaches in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's convenient monsoon seasons make it possible for half of this tropical island's coast to receive
the sun at any given time of year. The climate around the beaches is pleasant with average temperature
around 27 Celsius. High season for the beaches of the south and west is November to April, northern
winter when Sri Lanka has beautiful weather and perfect conditions for water-sports.
Close to the airport and north of Colombo are the lovely beaches of Hendala, Negombo and Waikkal.
South of colombo is well known "Gold coast", with many fine resorts which stretch from Mt.Lavinia
along Wadduwa, Kalutara, Beruwala, Benzoate, Induruwa, Kosgoda, Ahungalla, Hikkaduwa, Galle,
Unawatuna, Koggala, Weligama, Dickwella, Tangalle and Hambantota in the south. Here you can take
your pick of excellent beaches, calm surf protected by quiet bays, Coral, tropical fish and always bright
sunshine.
Eastern Coast
Here too Sri Lanka has fine beaches, typically wide stretches of sand and what seems like miles of clear,
shallow water; pretty bays and coves, deep natural harbors and still lagoon's underwater coral gardens
and a good, long sunshine filled season from February to mid-October. The best beaches are those of
Nilaweli, Kuchchaweli, Marble bay and Dead man's Cove, and north of Trincomalee town with natural
harbor. Go south and you will find the peaceful beaches of Pasikuda, Kalkuda and Arugam bay.
Sri Lanka offers wide choices, not only of locations but of quality and price. The most developed are the
resorts in south and west coast, where luxurious comfort and all the five star amenities such as
adventure tours, animation and the kind of entertainments typical of the `club' concept, our as much a
part of the service as the fine accommodation and the international cuisine. There are also colonial
period's inns and comfortable, inexpensive hotels as for those with a small a budget or a preference for
a simpler fair.
Water-sports Most of beach resorts offers water-sports, ranging from windsurfing, water skiing, surfing,
Wave boarding, canoeing, sailing, boating, snorkeling, deep sea diving, exploration of offshore wrecks,
deep sea fishing, water polo, water gymnastics, water and jet scooter racing. Water sports are available
through in-house operators or by arrangement with clubs and schools run by qualified local or foreign
professionals. Many hotels offer their sea or river-fronts and for those who prefer, there is always the
fresh or salt-water swimming pool.
