failed to advance past the group stages of the UEFA Champions
League.
They were runners-up for the top spot in the Barclay's Premier League
this season, losing out bitterly on the last game day to their neighborhood
rivals Manchester City but second place in arguably the best league in the

Busby managed one of the most respected and successful United sides in
team history.
Their first division league win in 1952 was the first after a 41 year dry
spell. In addition to dramatic success, the Busby Babes, as the English
fans referred to Busby and his squad, also had a tale riddled with tragedy.
The Munich Air Disaster is a blemish on the club's nearly flawless
history. On February 6, 1958 a plane travelling from Germany to
Manchester carrying players, reporters and dedicated fans crashed on the
icy runways in its third attempt to take off. Eight Manchester United
players lost their lives and a total of 23 people were killed from the
disaster.
Every February, the club opens the home game closest to the air
disaster with a ceremony to remember those whose lives were lost but
whose spirits live on in the club.
