Entrepreneur

David Anthony is the Managing Partner of 21Ventures,
an environmentally centred investment enterprise fo-
cussing on clean technology for the 21st century. An ex-
perienced entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and Adjunct
Professor at the New York Academy of Sciences, he
teaches courses and workshops on the process of trans-
lating scientific advances to commercial solutions.
All entrepreneurs face a series of challenges in launching and growing a successful technology venture,
but PhD’s, post-docs, researchers and traditional business students face additional hurdles in trying to
translate scientific research into viable commercial ventures. Unfortunately, traditional education in the
sciences and business do not include practical information about starting, building and running a technol-
ogy driven venture. Yet, increasingly science researchers and business professionals are joining forces to
create technology driven entrepreneurial ventures without a real understanding of how these businesses
will work, what the role of venture capital is, how to negotiate intellectual property rights, how to struc-
ture deals and partnerships, or when and how to build a winning management team.
