London, UK, 10th February 2010 - Toshiba UK today announced the launch of the new
Satellite U500-1EX - a highly portable and stylish laptop featuring a 13.3” multi-touch screen.

Perfect for users looking for more flexible control over their documents and multimedia files,
the Satellite U500-1EX’s multi-touch capabilities also make it ideally suited to the education
market, as users can benefit from a higher level of interaction than using a mouse or touch-
pad. Its portability and attractive design also make it an appealing option for mobile users
working in customer-facing roles who will value its multi-touch capabilities.

An interactive experience
Utilising the performance of the latest Intel Core i Series processor and simplicity of
Windows 7 techology, the Satellite U500-1EX features Microsoft’s Touch Pack for Windows
7 - which is pre-installed with Microsoft Surface Globe, Collage and Lagoon - enabling users
to easily flick through files and folders simply by touching the screen. Other touch controls,
such as tap and double-tap, drag, press and hold, flick and rotate enable users to enjoy a
new level of interaction with multimedia material. Pictures can be enlarged or reduced simply

by touching the screen, and users can scroll up and down internet pages and control videos
with their fingertips.

Text can be selected by dragging the finger from left to right over the desired area and the
Start menu and taskbar also have larger, fingertip-friendly icons. Programmes such as Word,
Excel and PowerPoint are also touch-ready, enabling users to get the very best Windows 7
experience.

The laptop also features Toshiba LifeSpace, a new application that takes advantage of
Windows 7’s simplicity and touchscreen navigation. The programme features an intuitive
‘Bulletin Board’, which enables users to create instant thumbnail shortcuts, while ‘ReelTime’
accelerates file searching by automatically adding a shortcut to a timeline of recently-used
files.

Brilliant performance, yet ultra portable and stylish
The latest Intel processing platform features Intel Core i3-330 processors, which, along with
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, provide a higher performance, greater system
responsiveness and a longer battery life. 4GB of DDR3 RAM enables the laptop to handle
multiple tasks simultaneously, while integrated Hard Disk Drive (HDD) capacities of up to
320GB provide enough space for thousands of documents, images and multimedia files.

The elegant 3D textured Luxe Brown design and the glossy black keyboard complement the
excellent hardware performance. The compact and light build also means the laptop weighs
just 2.15kg, making it an ideal choice for people on the move.

Full connectivity
Extensive connectivity provides numerous ways to connect with external devices:
Bluetooth® 2.1 with EDR, a 5-in-1 Bridge Media slot, HDMI (High Definition Multimedia
Interface), two USB 2.0 ports and an additional eSATA/USB combo port which supports
Toshiba’s Sleep-and-Charge technology, allowing users to charge phones, media players
and other devices while the laptop is switched off. Wireless LAN and Gigabit LAN are also
on board, providing rich internet and network connectivity.

A DVD Super-Multi (Dual Layer) drive is also included, while an integrated HD webcam and
