India celebrates many religious occasions throughout the year due to the diversity found in its population. But one occasion that appeals to every Indian irrespective of their race, caste, religion, culture or whatever, is the Independence Day. Independence Day in India is celebrated on every 15th of August. The occasion is probably the only occasion which is celebrated with full vigor, when people come out of their doors to celebrate their martyrs and heroes, who gave up their life in order to free our country from the British, who ruled our country for over 200 years. When you hear that India is celebrating, immediately the scene of women wearing heavy jewellery and men in traditional clothes, with happy smiles and with loads of sweets being made, comes through. But when you talk of Independence Day, the scene is completely different. People dress up in white clothes, come out of their houses, special functions are organized where songs are sung, remembering the bravos. The national flag is hoisted in the Country’s Parliament, in schools, offices and colleges and every person takes part in it.
