Document Description
Sexually Transmitted Diseases have no boundaries or limitations. It doesn't matter what your social status is, what your marital status is or what your gender is as long as you have sexual intercourse you put yourself vulnerable and at risk for STDs. Whether you engage in oral, anal or vaginal sex, you will still be susceptible to the disease. The dangerous thing about STDs is that not all of them present some physical symptoms during the early phases of infection. This means to say that you wouldn't know you were infected unless they come to the surface where the disease has already widely spread, which comes to the conclusion that you should undergo regular STD testing. Nonetheless, for the sake of information and increasing awareness, the common symptoms of STD are as follows according to disease: 1 - HIV infection (caused by human immunodeficiency virus) may not present early symptoms but the earliest signs would be flu-like in nature consisting of sore throat, fever, headache, fatigue, lymphadenopathy and rashes. Appearance of the flu-like symptoms may occur on the 14th day post-infection. 2 - Chlamydia infection (caused by C. trachomatis) may present painful urination and lower abdominal pain. Penile discharge and testicular pain may be experienced by men. 3 - Trichomoniasis (caused by T. vaginalis) presents painful intercourse and urination, vaginal irritation, redness and itching, vaginal discharge characterized by strong odor, greenish to yellowish and frothy and vaginal bleeding. 4 - Hepatitis may present jaundice characterized by itchy and yellow discoloration of skin and eyes, extreme fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, concentrated urine, fever and muscle and joint pain. 5 - Gonorrhea (N. gonorrheae) presents painful intercourse, increased frequency of urination with burning sensation and bloody or cloudy and think vaginal or penile discharge. 6 - Syphilis (T. pallidum) includes 3 different stages with unique symptoms each. Primary infection presents with chancre and lymphadenopathy. 7 - Genital herpes (HSV) presents vaginal discharge and painful intercourse. 8 - Genital warts (HPV) are usually asymptomatic but may present as inflamed genital area, itchiness and general discomfort around the genitalia as well as bleeding during intercourse. All of the symptoms of STD mentioned are not conclusive of the disease. Therefore, it is still important that you undergo STD testing and screening so that you would know whether you have the disease.
