lONAL Sustainable Development Strategy: Myan

The Union of Myanmar ¡s Located in sub-region of Southeast Asia, specifically in the area known as the Greater Mekong Sub-region. Bordering the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, Myanmar is also located in between the countries of Bangladesh in South Asia and Thailand in Southeast Asia. Myanmar with its unique political and social scenario has made promising progress towards sustain- able development while taking the necessary steps towards adopting a National Sustainable Devel- opment Strategy in 2007-2008, utilizing a multi-stakeholder participatory process. The Myanmar Agenda 2 I was formulate and published in I 997, providing a blueprint for the country's approach to sustainable development. A stronger institutional mechanism for addressing environment and sustainable development may come about with the passage of an Environmental Protection Law ex- pected in the near future.
