But whats the use of having a great six-pack if those little devils are still smirking back atyou in the mirror, almost winking at you.To that end, here are some specialised exercises that specifically aim at those pesky love handles:Routine 1: 1. Find a comfortable place to lie down flat on your back. Look for a firm, but not too hard, surface (no not the couch). Bend your knees. 2. Put both hands behind your head. 3. Raise your torso as if youre doing a normal sit-up, but as youre sitting up, turn your waist and touch one knee with the opposite elbow (i.e. left elbow to right knee or vice versa), or as close as you can get. Return to the lying down position.
  2. 4. Repeat, but touch the other knee with the other elbow (i.e. if the first one was left elbow to right knee, this time touch the left knee with the right elbow). Return to the lying down position. 5. Rinse and repeatWarningDont do this routine fast unless youre really fit. Do them slowly, aiming for a smooth rhythm toavoid straining anything. If you start to feel any sort of pain, STOP IMMEDIATELY. Injuring yourback isnt funny and you should avoid anything that will do so.The aim is to repeat the exercises enough times to make your torso work hard, but not hard enoughto strain it. If you find that one repetition gets you there, dont do any more. Do a few repetitions atfirst and work up to more. Its no good trying too hard to begin with. You arent going to keep it upif you injure yourself or hate it so much that you stop. Its something you need to aim to do for thelong term. It took you a while to get your love handles, most likely itll take a while to get rid ofthem.This routine works your whole midsection, not only your abs. What itll also do is target your sidearea as well. Often its here that the fat is most noticeable.Get used to doing this exercise and then try to do it as slowly as you can manage. This makes themuscles work even harder and makes the exercise more efficient.Routine 2Just a variation of routine 1. In step 3, each time you raise your torso, touch each knee with theopposite elbow and then lie back down again (so step 4 disappears).The warning applies to this routine as much as for routine 1.How badly your love handles affect your life and how little headway youre making with thestandard gym exercises can make it easy to be dispirited. When youre sweating, hurting (andpaying through the nose for gym dues) and not getting much in the way of results, it can feel realtough.Just remember that it isnt all your fault. Youre body was built for the caveman days, hunting,running, moving rocks. Your busy work and home life isnt capable of burning off all of the fatthats in the foods that advertisers bombard you with.
