- Task 1- Music video- research in to 2 subgenres presentation In pairs, You will produce a presentation about the advancement of music video looking at 2 different popular music genres. This will be assessed by a teacher observation sheet.
- Unit 1 task 1 – Introduction to music video.
- Task 1: You are going to investigate the development of music video in 2 different genres of popular music & produce a presentation of your findings.
- Here are a number of genres of music, choose two from the list to investigate.
- Soul
- Pop
- R& B
- Dance
- Indie
- Rock
- Heavy metal
- Hip hop
- Techno
- Electro
- Reggae
- Finding information
- A good starting point to find information on is Wikipeidia the on line encyclopedia, however, you must print out and Highlight any information that you use and answer the following questions in your own words, otherwise this is plagarism and your work will not be graded.
- Music video’s
- For each music genre that you are investigating, find one recent music video, and one music video from the past i.e, more then 10 years ago, so you can discuss how the technology of music videos has changed. e.g 2 rock videos and 2 hip hop video’s if you are investigating rock and hip hop.
- You must answer the following Questions on each music subgenre to fulfil the criteria of this task.
- What evidence is there that shows that the use of technology has changed from the older video compared with the new video (think about for example, special effects, lighting, editing techniques, digitalisation, music technology).
- Audience needs and lifestyles
- How have the needs and lifestyle of the audience changed for this subgenre of music think about changes in fashion, changes in personal use of technology and consumption of music (e.g, downloading music, iPods etc were not available over 10 years ago)
- Cultural changes, changes in style & content
- Cultural changes (again, refer to changes in personal consumption of media such as the internet, You tube , my space etc) Changes to the music industry as a whole.
- Changes in style and content- You will refer to how the style and content of that music subgenre has changed, for example in terms of lyrics and subject matter, e.g, lyrics might have become more explicit in rap music for example than 10 years ago.
- Economic reasons for changes in the music Industry
- -Again this refers to how the economy has changed over the years, for example, consumption of music and video in different formats is a reflection of the economic prosperity of a country. For example, the sale of CD’s has declined dramatically since the advent of downloading, but there has been an increase in audiences seeing their favourite acts perform live.
