NTSENTSETo identify students with extremely high intelligence and academic talent, a national level
scholarship program is organized by NCERT named as National Talent Search Examination. It
was first started in the year 1963.
This exam is organized just for 8th class students. In our country, NTSE Exam is the most
renowned and toughest exam at high school level. Earlier, this exam was conducted for class
10th student, but later shifted to class 8th.
The selection procedure for this exam is a 2-stage process. The first level is conducted by
State and the Second level NTSE Exam is organized at National level. The first level is
organized in the month of November and the National level is usually Organized in May by
DSERT.
Two parts of exam are their in State level. Part-I has Mental Ability Test(MAT) and the Part-II
has Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT).

Both exams consists of 90 questions each. The questions asked in National Talent Search
Examination's SAT are based on Social Science, Science and Mathematics, and their count is
35, 35 and 20 questions respectively. In this exam, schools based on any board can
participate.
The students who have scored the required percentage and have got ranks within the top
4000 ranks from the entire country are eligible for the next National level exam of NTSE
Exam. This exam also has two parts : MAT and SAT.
The result of this exam shal be declared the same year in til July- August. The Syl abus for
this National Talent Search Exam consists of al lessons that are taken by NTSE books,
namely S Chand, Tata McGraw Hills, Pearson Longman , Arihant etc. for MAT.
And for SAT the syl abi is as fol ows: The NCERT books of CBSE board is the syl abus to
study Science and Social Science subject. And for maths, students need to study the maths
syllabus of class 8th , 9th and 10th standard.
Earlier after clearly these two NTSE Exam levels , the students were called for interview but it
is discontinued from the 2010-2011 session. Now the students who have cleared this NTSE
Exam successfully are now eligible for scholarship.
The scholarship amount which is presently given is 500 /- Rs. Per month. This is given per
month to the selected student from VIII class onward except for Ph.D, as in Ph.D, it is paid as
per UGC norms.
