P.E.P.A. EVENTS AND PUBLICITY
Vol. 1 Issue 1
Welcome to the new look P.E.P.A. members' new
sletter. Thanks go to
Joe Goodwin for letting me produce this edition for you all. Please let me
have your feedback on and maybe tell me what YOU would like to see on
your newsletter each quarter.
First off the big news event for P.E.P.A. was of course, the launch of the
P.E.P.A. SOS ALERT CARD scheme on July 1st. Response has been
good so far, and hopefully the steady stream of new subscriptions will
continue, as more people realize the benefits of carrying this card.
Available to paid up members only, it is important that you check your
subscriptions are up to date before you apply for your card. All details of
the scheme are on www.pepaspain.com you can download the necessary
paperwork from there or ring Des Smith on 962807086 for details.
Talking of the internet, maybe the time has come to accept that it is very
much a part of our lives and is here to stay. That doesn't make it any easier
for me! I am the first to admit that I spend hours trying to do something.
Only to find out in the end, that it was actually quite simple and I could
have done it in seconds, had I known what I was doing. From talking to
other P.E.P.A. members, I know I am not alone in this! So, how about

Maybe we could have a talk on face book! Skype or other seemingly
necessary evils which drive me in sane, although I really need them if I
want to see my little grandchildren from the peace and quiet of my own
bedroom! There is a whole new world out there just waiting to be explored
if only I could find the right button, and find it quickly! By the time I've set
up the computer, sorted the camera and found the speaker button, my little
angels have long gone to bed and my son as usual has lost patience with me!
So how does a visit from a couple of experts, maybe a computer technician,
and an internet/phone provider sound to you? Expert info, spoken of course
in idiot proof and techno phobia language. Plus a nice meal and a couple of
glasses of vino. Sounds good? I will see what I can do. LOL AND CUL8R
A talk at July's luncheon in La Visteta, Barx was thoroughly enjoyed
by all. Lawyer Daniel Herranz [ Lex Consortium] entertained us and
intrigued us with an interesting and enlightening repartee on the Spanish
Health System and changes in Property Tax. I say entertained, because this

English was pretty damn good! Understanding something like this when
spoken in native English id difficult enough for me, and the thought of it in
broken English filled me with dread. But, I understood him perfectly. He
had a strong handshake and beautiful white teeth too! Sorry, what was I
saying! Ah yes, fabulous turnout, over 60 people attended. Our Terrific

FUNDAY AT BARX.
The general consensus of opinion was that the venue
for the May Fayre at La Font, La Drova was a success
and it has been suggested we hold it there again. It
was a superb location I have to agree, but,
unfortunately, we did not raise as much money as we
could have, due mainly to the fact that we were not
allowed to charge an entrance fee. We held a Grand
Charity Rastro in La Visteta Barx last September and
even though it was the first event of its kind there, we
raised more money than the May Fayre. So, how
about we hold a late summer fun day there as well this
year? Leo has agreed that Friday 31st August would
be a good day to do this and we would have exclusive
use of the restaurant, grounds and all facilities. We
can as before, have a market stall area, a dogs display
and P.E.P.A. Information area.[ although there will not

VISIT TO VINEYARD, WINE TASTING AND TAPAS ALL FOR 30euro
Vol. 1 Issue 1
PETER ARNOLD WINES JALON
In response to members' suggestions, there will be a
visit to this vineyard in October. The owners of Peter
Arnold Wines, Helen and Peter are offering P.E.P.A.
members guided tours of their vineyard, lasting 2hrs
for 15 people. This will include, wine tasting and
tapas. As their harvest finishes at the end of
September they recommend we go to visit them in
October. Depending on the number of people
interested in this, we may have to book several trips
during one week of October, I would suggest the first
week as it is straight after the harvest. We could have
a small coach which will pick up and drop off at Viva
Espana, Oliva [or somewhere else if preferred] and
the total cost for the trip will be 30euro all inclusive
Peter Arnold Wines is a family run business, which
comes highly recommended. They were voted 6th in
Guardian readers' top 10 vineyards in the world.....

to buy in more than enough grapes to meet our
demands. Rows of vines are carefully chosen from the
various vineyard blocks and monitored throughout the
growing season to ensure the best possible quality fruit.
Our tiny production of less than 2000 cases per year
means we can pay attention to every detail. As well as
our own small vineyard, we have also established blocks
of vines on neighboring properties which we run in
cooperation with the owners. Our innovative system of
vineyard management ensures that land - which would
otherwise be left fallow - becomes a productive asset to
both the owners of the properties and ourselves. We use
a minimal spray programme in our vineyards
(Integrated Viticulture), as much natural fertilizer as
possible and a green cover crop over the winter months.
Unlike many Bodegas & wineries, we can actually claim
that our wines are "handcrafted". Every element of the
wine making process is done by us, by hand. We do use
some outside help during picking but other than that, we
attend to it all.

What to do NEXT !
What shall we do next? There are lots of things I want to do, but what do YOU want to do? Feel free to send me
thoughts and ideas on what we should do for P.E.P.A. luncheons and events.
LUNCHEONS ....................Themed lunches. I have now agreed to take on the lunches as from the autumn. It
would be good if we could have a theme to each luncheon. Whether we are having a talk, demonstration or
simply some light entertainment, each luncheon should be a mini event!. I love OLD TIME MUSIC HALL so if
anyone else does, please say and we can do one of these! Price of course would have to reflect the
entertainment provided but I would try to keep them around 15 to 20 euro's. More ideas on themes and venues
RACE NIGHT there was a very successful race night held not so long ago and I have had lots of people say to
me that they would love one too. Well how about a RACE LUNCH? If I can arrange it, why don't we have the a
race night but during the day. Maybe some of us are not so happy about venturing out to far at night. Maybe you
have to worry about babysitters and an afternoon out would be ideal, you could go out and play whilst the kids are

Look him up on Google if you don't believe me. I am so excited. I haven't even got the venue
arranged yet or the date, but, it will be on a Sunday afternoon In August. I will keep you
informed. Please let me know either by email or on firstname.lastname@example.org if you
would like to come along and take a trip down memory lane with someone who really was a
part of the music scene then and still is now, ` Tony Rivers'. Ohhh I feel all faint! Where's my
hot pants, pvc boots and false eyelashes? I can feel a trip to the charity shop coming on!
Final!! Note from JAINE THORNE - EVENTS ORGANISER and PUBLICITY for P.E.P.A
ne thing I did pick up on recently at the luncheon was the need for more communication between P.E.P.A. and
its members. So I decided to set up a group/forum exclusively for you. Use it to talk to other P.E.P.A. members,
discuss topics which interest you, tell us what you have enjoyed and what you haven't, pass on hints and tips, ask
questions, promote fund raising events, swop stories, swop and sell belongings, have a moan [please be gentle as I
am a sensitive soul], say anything you wish [please be polite], especial y if it concerns P.E.P.A., Spain, Raising
money for Charity, Foster Carers/Adopting or Abandoned Animals. These are the things after al , which we all
have as a common interest, these are the things we care about and these are the things which brought us all
together in the first place. These interests together with our passion, enthusiasm, and team work make P.E.P.A.
the success it is. Let's make sure it keeps going from strength to strength. Thank you for al your support.
