Reverse Logistics - For a Green Environment
Aiming for a greener and safer environment has provoked the industry leaders and large business houses to recycle unused products
and by-products through quick, efficient and cost effective methods. Recycling is the key word in the present day business scenario.
Reverse logistics stands for all operations related to the reuse of products and materials. Similar to the logistics process in any
organization, this also involves the process of planning, implementing, and controlling flow of raw materials, in-process inventory,
finished goods and related information through cost effective methods. The difference lies in direction of the flow - from the point
of consumption to the point of origin or reuse. This process helps industries and business houses to recapture the value of the
product or ensure proper disposal.
Retailers consider merchandise or product returns as disjointed transactions. The management and sale of these surplus or
returned products has thus become a challenge for the logisticians. Hence remanufacturing and refurbishing activities are
considered to meet these challenges and have become a part of the reverse logistics process. Reverse logistics not only returns
management, it is includes a list of related activities of after-market supply chain issues such as returns avoidance, gate keeping, and
proper disposal.
A good Returns Management system combined with high service standards, are the key components of business strategies aimed
towards customer retention and efficiency in operations. With a cross-functional impact, the returns management system is a
definite link between marketing and logistics. By recognizing out of date revisions and components on receipt of a product saves the
time, energy and space for warehousing.
Reverse Logistics is a way to discover reusable solutions for unutilized and depreciating assets. These assets can turn into valuable
investments if they are remarketed completely or in parts, through partial or complete recycling. The logistics companies include
reverse logistic services as a part of the complete package of customized logistics solution. The integrated Reverse Logistics and
Return Management services checks warranty & lease returns, refurbishes a vast array of products through testing and debugging,
repackaging to meet retail fulfillment targets. Besides providing RMA support, web based inquiry and reporting, the reverse logistics
team also ensures proper disposal through remarketing and recycling of products.
