Not all oil jobs take place in Texas, although that's generally what you think of when you hear about
oil rigs. These days, oil rig jobs that are being looked at are generally the offshore oil jobs. Most
people who are considering looking for work on the rigs consider companies such as Chevron
offshore oil rigs, or BP offshore oil rigs. They consider that the big boys are the place to start.

with minimal skills. So just what is a roustabout job on an offshore rig and what will you be doing?
What kind of money can you expect to be paid for the job and is it dangerous?
Facts are facts. Any time that you're working with a substance that is highly flammable, there is an
element of danger. Add water and electricity into the mixture and of course there is some risk
involved. Generally offshore rigs operate safely over long periods of time. Roustabout jobs are the
most common type of job on these offshore rigs. There is minimal risk, about as much as you might
face in a construction job. In fact, probably more, and the pay is very lucrative.
For an offshore roustabout, the pay will generally start about 45-50,000 dollars per year and that is for
an unskilled laborer. Where else are you going to find that kind of money for unskilled labor and have
a great chance of advancement?
A Roustabout job entails some long hours, some hard work, painting, scraping rust, working with the
electricians or others and generally for about 12 hours a day. While it can be physically taxing, it can
also be rewarding since most roughnecks or roustabouts don't stay in that position more than a year.
They generally move on to better jobs on the offshore rigs-- and also to better pay.
