STD Symptoms and What They Mean

Document Description
For many people, a night out on the town can start in a bar and end in a hotel room. You may go on your way after that, thinking nothing of it until the person you were with calls you to suggest that you get checked, or you begin to notice certain symptoms that make you think you may have an STD. Nobody wants to be randomly tested, so how do you know what STD symptoms are? There is a common set of symptoms that many STDs exhibit, so here are a few to look out for. The most commonly noticed symptom is a rash that is centered around the genitals and is often associated by an itch that seems to burn. This can also be a precursor to sores, blisters or welts in this area. It can be very annoying as it really can't be scratched to relieve the itching. Another of the STD symptoms that can frequently be present is a difficulty in urination or a burning sensation while urinating. Many viral STD infections cause the urethral lining to become inflamed, which causes this burning sensation or the difficulty in urination. These types of symptoms are also common with other infections, such as bladder or prostate infections, so they are not conclusive and should be tested to determine the cause. If you have burning or difficulty in urinating, you may want to look for some of the other common symptoms. One of the hardest STD symptoms to determine is swelling or tenderness of the genitals, because it can occur for a wide variety of reasons, not just as an indicator of an STD. Usually, if you have this symptom, you will want to look for other common symptoms to help you make a better determination. One of the most noticeable STD symptoms can be a discharge or pus from the vagina or urethra. It is often the first symptom to be noticed and reported. However, pus and discharge can be symptoms of other infections and conditions as well. The main thing to understand here is that if you have any question that you may have contracted an STD, and you have one or more of these symptoms, you should not ignore the possibilities. Getting tested early can confirm the condition and help you to avoid further problems. Although there is no cure for some STDs, there is treatment for many of them and you will want to know in order to protect yourself and others.
