- Research has shown that children who continue to read during the summer vacation perform better in school in the fall.
- Every library will begin Summer Reading signups and special activities 2 – 4 p.m.
- Central Library on Grand Army Plaza is having a Block Party 10 – 4 p.m. with performances and an appearance from Sesame Street’s Maria!
- Two ways to sign up:
- 1. Paper registration form
- The library will use your name and birthday to create a username for you on www.summerreading.org Madison Smith born January 1st would log in for the first time as madsmi0101 Everyone’s password is read . Users change their username and password when they first log in.
- Registration forms in many languages are available by request
- On our new website: www.summerreading.org
- Users can:
- create a screen name and avatar
- Earn virtual badges for reading and other activities
- Post reviews and “like” reviews by others
- Customizable Avatar on www.summerreading.org

- RIF Bookbag for Game Players Players ages 5 – 18 can get a Reading Is Fundamental Bookbag when they show their game at RIF time at their library.
- Summer Reading for Adults
- Adults can attend book discussions and other programs to win raffle prizes.
- Studies show that young people who see adults reading are more likely to read themselves.
