Textured Stripes Scarf

I made this pattern because I wanted a subtly striped scarf. After
falling in love with this color I decided that instead of using two different
colors, I would use two different textures to create noticeable, but subtle
strips. This scarf pattern is easy to memorize, and quick to knit up. The
width of the scarf can be changed by casting on more or less stitches,
and the length of the scarf can be lengthened or shortened depending
on how many repeats you knit.

This pattern calls for Caron Simply Soft Eco® which is a yarn line
that not only has beautiful colors, but is also 20% post-consumer plastic
bottles. For each scarf knitted from this yarn, one entire plastic bottle
has been used and kept out of the crowded landfills. I plan on making a matching hat and
mitten set to match this scarf at a later date so keep your eyes peeled!


Materials:
Two (2) skeins of Caron Simply Soft Eco ®, Ocean
One (1) pair of size 8 knitting needles (or size 8
circular needles)
Yarn needle to weave in threads
Scissors
Gauge:
4.5 per inch
** gauge is not critical for this project**
To make a stiffer, tighter scarf use a smaller needle.
To make an airier, lighter scarf use a larger needle.

Moss stitch:
Row 1: *K1, P1
Row 2: P1, K1
Repeat from *

Textured Scarf Pattern:
CO 40 sts
Row 1-14: Moss stitch
Row 15: Sl st, K to end of row
Row 16: Sl st, P to end of row
Rows 17-26: repeat above two rows
This is an incredibly soft and comfy scarf!
Rows 27-38: Moss stitch
Repeat Rows 15-38 sixteen (16) more times or until scarf is a few inches shorter than desired
length.
Knit fourteen (14) rows of Moss Stitch
Cast Off. Weave in all ends.
Finishing:
Hand wash in warm water to release extra dye. Block if desired.
