The Abyss
The Abyss is a region of Atreia located between Elysea and Asmodae. This area is
reserved for higher level characters and end-game purposes because of highly
desirable items and rare resources. It is an unpredictable area, with new challenges and
opportunities for victory. The Abyss also offers the best place to gain experience, since
the creatures provide a greater bonus to the advancement of player characters than
those found in other areas.
How to Enter the Abyss
Each faction has 4 quests which must be completed in order
to gian access to the Abyss. The quests are obtained at
level 25, and compared to the other quests, has a higher
difficulty level.
Each faction has Abyss Gateways in particular zones, which
are used to enter the Abyss. These gateways can only be
used once Abyss entry quests are all completed.
The Elyos have gateways in the skies above Verteron
Fortress and one floating above Eltenen Fortress. Asmodian
gateways are located in the skies above Altgard, Morheim
and Belruslan Fortresses.
After going through the Abyss gateways you will arrive at
Teminon Stronghold (Elyos) or Primum Stronghold
(Asmodian).
Faction Stronghlds
Upon entering the Abyss, players will start at their
faction strongholds, Teminon(Elyos) or
Primum(Asmodian).Various NPCs and quest givers
are available at the strongholds. While in the Abyss,
players can earn Qina as well as Abyss Points, which
can be used tot purchase equipment and items.
Abyss Points can be earned by completing quests,
killing monsters or players of the other faction. Items
can be purchased with Abyss Points from the
rewards NPC. Various towers are placed at the
strongholds. These towers can teleport players back
to their faction towns for a small fee.

Abyss Structure
As already mentioned, the Abyss consists of Lower, Upper and Core sections, with
each section containing monsters of varying levels. It is recommended that players level
or quest in the zones appropriate to their character level.
There are 9 fortresses and 31 artifacts scattered around the Abyss. Fortress and artifact
siege status' can be viewed from the ingame map.
To reach the Upper Abyss, one must travel through the beam of light on either East
Rateslan or West Rateslan. Travel can also be done from the teleporters inside the
fortresses depending which faction owns the fortress.
The Divine fortress at the core of the Abyss can be reached from the Eye of
Eleshuranta in the Upper Abyss. If the core is held by either the Elyos or Asmodian
factions, the teleport route to the core will be available.

Abyss Points
Abyss Points are required to increase PvP ranks and the purchasing of PvP items. Your
current Abyss Points and rank can be checked from the Abyss tab in the character
information window.
Abyss Points are gained from killing players of the opposing factions and monsters,
however being killed in PvP or PvE combat will decrease your points. Purchasing items
with Abyss Points will also decrease the amount of points you have.
Your current Abyss Points will determine your rank, so using your points up could lower
your rank.
Abyss Ranks
Possessing a Fortress in the Abyss, killing enemy faction players and NPCs, and
completing quests are ways to receive Abyss Points. Abyss equipment and
consumables may be purchased with Abyss Points, however it is the amount of points a
player has that determines his/her Abyss Rank. Purchasing Abyss gear will lower your
Abyss Points and may affect your rank, so one must decide whether to keep their rank
or to purchase better items.

There are 18 ranks in total, and below is a table listing the different ranks, titles and
amount of Abyss Points required per rank. Grade 5 Officers to High Commander will
have access to special skills. These skills surpass the abilities of regular skills by far,
and can only be used within the Abyss. Ranking up further will allow these skills to
become even more powerful. Dropping below the Grade 5 Officer rank will take away
these abilities.
Grade 9 Soldier is the lowest rank and Supreme Commander the highest. The column
"Required Positions" is labeled a bit misleading, it shows the maximum number of
players that can have this rank. There will only be one Supreme Commander for
example. The sorting inside the ranks is done by total amount of Abyss points the
players currently have. If eg. there are more players with enough points to have a
certain rank, but fewer spots per table, only those with the highest amount of points will
have that rank. The others will be "downgraded" a rank.
The table does not reflect the whole abyss point system, since eg. you'll get less
points should you kill a player that only has half HP, but should be close enough to give
you an idea about it. "Points Gained" are points you would get by killing a player with
that rank. "Points Lost" refers to the points you'll lose at a certain rank being killed.
Looking at the table makes it obvious that in the beginning (with lower ranks) you don't
lose that many points, but the higher your Abyss rank, the more points you will lose
should someone kill you. I'm not sure if the same system (if you kill a NPC five levels
lower then your level in Aion you won't get XP/loot) applies for Abyss points as well, so

if eg. you kill someone 10 ranks lower then you you'd get nothing. There is a larger
discussion about how your playstyle will change depending on Abyss rank. Getting
killed at very high Abyss rank will result in losing AP worth a few hours grind. Time will
tell how this system works out and how it will change.
You earn Abyss Points (AP) via killing the other faction (players & NPCs), killing
Balaur & other Abyss NPCs, claiming an Abyss fortress and from quests. Even before
lvl 25 there are a few quests that will give you abyss points. I also heard rumours about
some rare quest you can get while crafting that will yield 10.000K and 700 AP. You lose
Abyss Points
by getting killed inside the Abyss and by the other faction or by spending
the points on gear. The gear you buy with Abyss points has no rank requirement to
wear it. So once you bought it, you'll be able to use it.
Artifacts
Artifacts are scattered around the Abyss and
can be held by Elyos, Asmodian or Baluar
forces for 24 hours. Taking over an artifacts
will allow the use its hidden powers. This
power is often referred to as the artifact skill.
The artifact skill when activated, will affect
targets surrounding the floating island which
the artifact is on.
Artifact Locations
There are 31 artifacts in the Abyss and a total
of 14 artifact skills exist. There are 8 artifacts
in the Lower Abyss, 14 in the Upper Abyss
and 9 in the Core Abyss.

Artifact Possession
Unlike fortresses, Artifacts can be taken over at
any time. If an Artifact is occupied by the Balaur
faction, an Artifact Defender will be present. The
first faction(and Legion) to defeat the Artifact
Defender will take control of the Artifact. When a
faction takes control of an Artifact, an Artifact
Defender NPC of that faction will spawn. As
such, defeating the Artifact Defender of another
faction will allow your faction to take over the
Artifact.
When possessing an Artifact, there will be many other NPCs that also protect the
Artifact Defender, however, only the Artifact Defender needs to be defeated in order to
change ownership. After the Artifact Defender dies, all the other remaining NPCs will
automatically despawn. Like the fortresses, the emblem belonging to the Legion that
possesses the Artifact will be displayed on the Artifact. If the Artifact is taken by a
guildless player, then the player's faction emblem will be displayed.
Using the Artifact
Artifacts are a crucial part of fortress sieges. Artifacts are taken by factions to access
the powerful area of effect skills within them. For those assaulting a fortress, the Artifact
skills can play a vital role in penetrating the fortress defences. For those defending their
fortresses, it is best if you don't allow the other factions to take control of these Artifacts.
To use an Artifact skill, you must have the required amount of Artifact Activation Stones.

These stones cannot be bought from any of the shops. Instead the recipe to craft the
stone must be purchased form the Abyss Consumable Rewards NPC, and the stone
can be crafted through the use of the alchemy profession. An alchemy level of 199 is
requires to learn this recipe. The below table lists the materials required to build an
Artifact Activation Stone.
Having the necessary amount of Artifact Activation Stones will allow the Artifact
Activation button to be available. Clicking on the button will start the skill activation
animation and the Artifact skill will be cast. Moving or being attacked during the Artifact
activation will cancel the skill cast. The recast times are different for the Artifacts
depending on the skill types.
Like fortresses, Artifacts can be captured by Legions, however, if the Artifact Defender
is killed by a player not belonging to a Legion, then the Artifact will be owned by the
whole faction that the player belongs to. When an Artifact is under a Legion's control,
only the Legion Master may activate the Artifact by default. By changing the member
rights/privileges, the guild officers can also activate Artifacts. When an Artifact belongs
to a whole faction, any player of that faction is able to activate that Artifact.
Abyss Fortresses
Abyss fortresses are powerful Balaur strongholds guarded by some of their most
powerful forces. Spread across all five realms of the Abyss, fortresses offer both a
monetary bonus and a strategic benefit to any faction that holds them, making them
hotly contested PvPvE points.
Every section of the Abyss has a certain amount of fortresses, with the ones closest to
center of the region offering the most benefits. To take a fortress, players will need to
form a Legion with other raiders on their side and begin the raiding process.
