adaptable, resilient, agile, and customer-focused to succeed. They continually expand
across an increasingly global business environment; they strive to find new and ever
more effective ways through which they can improve their competitive positions. As
human resource management evolves into an ever-increasing means of competitive
advantage for multinational corporations there is a greater importance on an
organization's capacity to manage and share human resource innovations.HR
professionals have evolved to become a strategic partner in the running of an
organization.
The need for global human resource management
As global human resource management has become a business driven function, it is
necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of the organization's objectives, and
also be able to influence the key decisions and policies of the organization. It is
necessary for global human resource management to focus on strategic personnel
retention and talents development. The main objective of a global HRM is to create a
local appeal without making any concessions on the global identity of the organization. It
also generates awareness of cross cultural sensitivities among managers globally and
hiring of staff across geographic boundaries.
The Role of Global HRM
Human Resource management approaches vary from company to company depending
on their individual stage of internationalization. Ideally the strategic role of human
resource management is to make certain that those HRM policies are in tandem with and
in support of the firm's strategy, structure and controls. It is necessary for the
management to recognize the role of the human resources department, in order to
successfully steer any organization towards profitability. HR must constantly show value
and an understanding of the business objectives of the firm as this way HR is positioned
to anticipate and forecast business needs and position recruiting and selection activities
to fulfill these needs. HR activities play a vital role in combating the crisis of high
attrition rates, shortage of skilled employees and poaching strategies. With the expertise
of a global HR, all the workforce related activities at all levels of management can be
tackled effortlessly. HR professionals need to become coaches, counselors, mentors, and
succession planners to help motivate organizations members and their loyalty.
Many multinational companies are making endeavors to harness the value of diversity to
give them a truly global culture. It is no doubt that human capital is a company's most
expensive asset. It is therefore very necessary for HR that it provides the best employee
benefit services that work well for both the employer and employees.
