UNITY THE BAND • Pioneers of American Reggae
Roots, rock and reggae are the heart and soul of Unity. It
brings seven musicians from seven very different backgrounds to
create a completely different original and cover music forming what
we call "American Reggae". The recipe is a large dose of reggae,
a hint of gospel, a smattering of classical, another portion of rock, a
splash of roots, and a pinch of jazz for garnish. The end result is a
full meal of entertainment which has proven to draw an audience
nearly anywhere, and has kept them listening and watching energet-
ically. Most any venue, large or small, can benefit from honoring
Unity with an invitation to play at their venue.
So, what can you expect from Unity? You can count on hard-hit-
ting entertainment. Also, music that is universal and appeals to any-
one’s taste and style. For those who want to hear something new, a
large percentage of what we play is quality original music that
Unity has collaborated to create. For those who want to sing along
to something that they know, we have plenty of covers done in our
style to satisfy their craving. Above all, you can count on someone
staying there all night to see what song Unity is going to do next.
One of our specialties is keeping the music we play very dynamic,
different, and pleasing to the ear.
With these ideas in mind, Unity promises to provide a style of
music like no other, giving entertainment like no other, and to be
unlike any other.

Christine Vosters (Keyboard and Vocals) began playing piano at the age of nine
with her primary focus on classical music and participation in several
competitions and workshops. In high school she expanded her musical horizon
to include Jazz by participating in jazz band and also began writing music.
Christine attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and majored in theatre.
This is where she began exploring vocals and, shortly after, was given the
opportunity to become part of Unity. Christine enjoys sending a message
through song and blending her classical style with the rest of the Unity family in
order to complete the original and creative sounds they deliver.
Steve Scott (Drums) began playing the drums at the age of four for his
church. Steve fine-tuned his skills playing at various churches, picking up
a musical background in Gospel, R & B, and Blues. Although he now
loves to play everything as the drummer in Unity, he uses his previous
knowledge to incorporate diversity into the band. Since moving to
Wisconsin, Steve is glad to be a part of Unity and has a really good time
mixing beats with the rest of the band.
Chris Brown (Alto and Tenor Saxophone; Backup Vocals) began playing
saxophone at the relatively early age of 9 and has been learning ever since
through various jazz camps and college. He currently attends the University of
Wisconsin Oshkosh where he studies Marketing and Music. There he also plays
with the UW-Oshkosh Jazz Ensemble. Chris brings a jazz flair to Unity. Jazz,
being hybrid music itself, lends well to being mixed with other music—Reggae
is proving to be no exception.
Pita Katobalavu (Lead Vocals) began his musicianship in his native home, the
Fiji Islands, and continued it while in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, Pita has
performed in five different reggae bands and his church choir. Although it
took a year after starting this band to find its true backbone, he is still enjoying
every minute of it. Turning the musical message into words, Pita adds a
smooth and happy island feeling to the overall diversity of the band.
Todd Lehman (Guitar) has been playing the guitar for about twenty-six years.
The styles that most interested him at first were Rock-n-Roll and the Blues,
which is what he was playing until joining up with Unity last year. Adding
more styles to his favorites and fitting his rhythms to a new sound has been a
fun and interesting task for him. Along with his experience, Todd contributes
a cool blues feeling that helps to keep the music flowing.
Tyler Terrell (Bass Guitar) spent most of his formative years studying trumpet
performance and playing mind-numbing role-playing games. After high
school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent four years playing trumpet full
time in the Army band. It was during this time that he picked up the bass
guitar. Nowadays, Tyler proudly serves his country performing with the
Wisconsin National Guard band. He has a penchant for strange things that,
with his knowledge and variation of music, he throws into the Unity
collaboration.
Jeremy (Chunk) Schroetter (Percussion) began controlling vibrations about four
years ago after acquiring a doumbek. Thanks to his friends and other great
musicians he finds his inspiration in jazz, Native American, Latin, Indian, and
nyabinghi. To the musical lilt of Unity he adds the nyabinghi style, which was
originally used in roots reggae. Since everybody and everything has a vibration,
Chunk hopes to catch every person’s vibe and apply it to the rhythm so that they
may connect with the unifying message.
