Values
Values are, simply things thats important to you. They are states of mind & principles of
action, that are usually abstract, like, love, honesty, fun, health, respect, freedom, loyalty,
integrity, security & friendship. They are qualities that we value in others & in ourselves.
Everyone has values. Anyone who says that they don’t, they simply don’t know who they are
or what those values are.
There’s two type’s of values
1st -values behind your goals, these are simply your intentions behind a specific goal. What
would achieving a specific goal give you, why is it important to you. The values behind your
goal can be liken to knowing your why behind your goal.
2nd – your core values, these are your unique values. They are your drivers. They are centre
of who you are. Most people are unaware of their values, let alone know that there is a
hierarchy of values.
One of the things that can stop or hamper you achieving your goals, is not respecting your
values, especially during the process of working towards your goals.
A while back, I was working on a job. The money wasn’t bad, it was commission &
performance based. I started of doing pretty well. I would go in at 8 in the morning & finish
around 7 or 8, 6 days a week. After a while in the job, I noticed my performance going
down. The more I tried, the harder it became. It really puzzled me.
It wasn’t until when I really understood & become aware of my core values, when everything
made sense. One of core values was family which right at the top of my hierarchy of core
value. My job was taking me away from my family & my job was in conflict with one of my
highest values. If I persisted, I might have improved my results, however at what cost, at the
violation of one my highest values. Which would have ultimately lead to dissatisfaction.
I’ve created two pdf’s to guide you to identify your core values in life.
The 1st one is “ How to Identify your Core Values”, explains the three step process

How to Elicit Values
How to Compare Values – The Value Comparison Chart
How to Identify Core Values

& 2nd pdf is the Core Values Guide, which you can use to identify your core values. It is a
guide to identify 8 of your core values, however there is no restrictions on how many values
you can identify.
