Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

1756 - 1791

Mozart was the very first child star, and from the age of four was

playing in front of the kings and queens of Europe.

When he was two, his father discovered him playing a note on their

piano, and it was so beautiful that the sound made young Mozart

cry. His father knew his son Wolfgang was destined for greatness.

In only a few years Mozart was composing symphonies and operas for voices and orchestra,
and the young boy could write music faster than anyone in the world.

Even more amazing was the fact that Mozart could write his music down with no need for
corrections. Everything was perfect the very first time he wrote it down on paper. Most
composers had to work endlessly and slowly on their music, but young Mozart was able to
create music effortlessly.

Mozart was a very witty boy and liked to play pranks and jokes on people because of his
playful, boyish nature. But as he grew older he had to compete as an adult, and Mozart
sometimes found it difficult to be responsible and pay his bills on time. He had to borrow
money many times from friends who new that he was the greatest composer of his time.

He settled in Vienna, where most great musicians of the time came to make their mark and
find their fortune. But for Mozart it was different: he had already been famous since he was
very young.

So he set about the task of becoming the Court Composer to the Emperor of Austria, a man
who could make Mozart rich and comfortable for the rest of his life.

But Mozart had many enemies, musicians who were jealous of his talent and fame, and who
schemed against Mozart to make sure that he did not get the job of Court Composer.

But Mozart found that he could make huge amounts of money writing operas, and since that
was what he really wanted to do anyway, he set out to write great music for the stage and
theater.

Mozart changed forever how we use music in the theater, inventing new ways for singers to
become characters, using music in a way that no one had ever thought of before.

The most famous song that Mozart wrote is “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”
