Hello!
My name is Francis and I would be
very grateful if you could take the
time look to at my portfolio.

centre ‘the Link’. the tone of voice required was warm,

welcoming, safe and relaxed. the structure of the centre
itself was very flexible and adaptable. Working in teams
of five the deliverable was a ‘big idea’ that could be
applied to a logotype, visual identity, interior design
and promotion. Our concept was ‘Lava’. Our response
consisted of a logotype, color specs, an image library, an
interactive wal . `promotion consisted of large bluetooth
enabled fibreglass sculptures dotted around the city.

in Brief
the brief was to take an ordinary everyday ‘site’ and then
make it extraordinary. My response explores the emotional
qualities of a tunnel I pass through on a daily basis. I was
interested in communicating the feelings of anxiety and fear
the tunnel can exert on its users.
FRANCIS DALY / PROJECT / Creative Meaning

in Brief
The brief was to design a contemporary cover for Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Design
attempts to capture the surreal ‘nothing is as it seems’
nature of the book, along with familiar motifs using vibrant
and distorted colours and shapes. The typography is kept
clean and simple as not to interfere with the illustration.
Penguin student awards entry.

in Brief
The brief was to design a contemporary cover for the
book Perfume by Patrick Süskind. Design attempts to
capture themes of the story a simple, witty manner.
At first glance the image appears to be a male figure
fol owing a female. on second glance it also forms
the two eyes and a nose of Grenouille’s face. the
spine and reverse are designed to complement the
subtlety of the cover. The typography on the cover is
designed to quietly suggest a mouth.

Book Cover Design

In Brief
The brief was to create a poster campain that cuts through
the visual noise of the daily commute to promote metro
newspapers. My response explores the posssibilty of Metro
standing for somethng. With each poster the final word
is changed, and that word relates to a motif from popular
culture that is likely to be covered by metro and understood
by urbanites. the word also relates to the thought one might
experience whilst reading Metro. The tone of voice is friendly
and playful, using hand drawn elements in an attempt to stand
out from the visiual noise of the morning commute, and get
them thinking. What could Metro stand for?
FRANCIS DALY / PROJECT / D&AD Awards: Metro

In Brief
The brief was to create a campaign to persuade 16-
25 year olds to donate £5 a month to actionaid. the
message is direct and simple; your fiver a month will
help someone smile. The tone of voice is intended
to be upbeat, aided by the the fact that the people
featured represent ActionAid success stories.
FRANCIS DALY / PROJECT / YCN Awards: ActionAid

CITIZEN JOURNALISM
by Francis Daly
In Brief
The brief was completely self directed. From a
starting point of ‘the impact of the internet on
weestern society’ Aimed at 16-24 year olds My
response communicates the concept of citizen
journalism, in an acceessible and easy to understand
manner. The piece takes the form of an animation
so it can be uploaded to Youtube and become a
piece of citizen journalism in its own right.
