ZAKO - A HALO: REACH MACHINIMA. Episode I.
EPISODE I, SCENE I
HARD CUT FROM BLACK:
HICKORY, standing on the right side of an operating table,
looking down on the camera, pointed at him. The camera is the
first-person view of ZAKO, although this is not immediately
apparent. The camera shifts to look at BROOKS, who enters the
room and stands at the left side of the operating table.
BROOKS:
I got a call from RED HILL that you
found someone willing to help us.
Would you like to explain?
HICKORY:
Yes, we found him half-dead outside
this morning. We're not sure what
happened, he was unconscious before
he could explain anything.
BROOKS:
You just 'Found' him?
HICKORY:
He was dying of hypothermia and after
he recovered he agreed to help with
the cause.
BROOKS:
Does he even remember any of it?
HICKORY:
I'll try talking to him after he's
fully woken up.
HICKORY stares into the camera.
HICKORY:
His vital signs are stable. You
should leave him here to recover.
BROOKS:
That would be best. Oh, and about
Operation Countdown-
HICKORY:
Are you sure we can talk about that
in front of this guy?
BROOKS:
Point taken. Over here.
HICKORY and BROOKS leave the room. The camera cuts out of
ZAKO's first person view and now shows HICKORY AND BROOKS
face-to-face, out of ZAKO's view.
BROOKS:

About Countdown. We can leave this
afternoon. Is everyone ready?
HICKORY:
They should be. Any I.D. on the
suspect?
BROOKS:
It's someone going by the name of
'SNAPDRAGON', we know that much.
Actual name unknown and sources are
saying he has no combat experience.
HICKORY:
No combat experience? That's odd. You
sure it's not false data?
BROOKS:
Nope, genuine. He keeps bodyguards,
though.
HICKORY:
Bruisers?
BROOKS:
Probably.
HICKORY:
What kind of firepower are they
holding?
BROOKS:
Probably the usual. ARs, possibly
LMGs.
HICKORY:
Any risk of traps? Bombs?
BROOKS:
There's quite a large bomb at the
centre of the tower. I'll, of course,
defuse that.
HICKORY:
Anything else?
BROOKS:
The rest is in the dossier I gave
you.
(Beat)
You ready to go?
HICKORY:
When you are.
HARD CUT TO BLACK. FADE IN:
ZAKO
EPISODE I, SCENE II

HARD CUT FROM BLACK:
Camera shows close-up of BEKEN, looking down. Camera cuts to
show side view of him, making it immediately apparent that he
is in an armory on the REC Rocksteady, and he is looking down
at a table of weapons. Enter LE BLAS.
LE BLAS:
Ready?
BEKEN:
Almost.
LE BLAS:
I take it the Special Tasks Force
will be accompanying us?
BEKEN:
No, they're pre-occupied with
Operation Sunrise.
(Beat)
LE BLAS:
You seem nervous.
BEKEN:
SATO and TEVOS both ate it last time
an op like this was in effect.
LE BLAS:
That's it? SATO and TEVOS both ran
ahead. They brought it upon
themselves.
BEKEN:
Something just seems... off. Just a
hunch, I guess.
LE BLAS:
You're over-thinking it. We've
practiced this dozens of times. We
walk in, detain the guy, and walk
out. Easy as can be.
(Beat)
SORREN's got the reentry pods
prepped. We'll be going planetside in
two hours exactly....
LE BLAS looks down and to the right, looking at his watch.
...Now.
LE BLAS leaves the room. BEKEN watches him go before staring
down at the table of weapons again.
HARD CUT TO BLACK.
EPISODE I, FINAL SCENE
HARD CUT FROM BLACK:

Wide shot of the Spire from the map of the same name. Bottom
right-hand corner text display. Shot lingers for a few seconds
before a Falcon enters from the left hand side of the screen
and continues past to the right hand side of the screen -
Toward the back of the level.
Cut to ground shot of the Falcon landing. Four soldiers in
full combat gear step out - HICKORY, BROOKS, BEKEN and LE
BLAS. and walk toward the camera
Camera cuts to another wide shot of the Spire's surrounding
rocks and the four man team walking quickly toward the Spire.
They all draw weapons as ambient music picks up and sets the
quicker pace for the scene.
The four enter the Spire's elevator and head up to the top.
Once they reach there, the music stops and the soldiers slow
their walking speed and split up to look in different sections
of the Spire.
BROOKS:
Black Team, everyone copy?
HICKORY AND BEKEN:
Copy. (Simultaneously)
(Beat)
BROOKS:
LE BLAS, do you copy?
(Beat)
I repeat, LE BLAS, do you copy?
BROOKS turns a corner in the Spire to find LE BLAS' dead body
laying on the ground. BROOKS doesn't react.
BROOKS:
Black Team, do you copy? LE BLAS is
dead.
HICKORY:
Copy, I'm with BEKEN, We're on alert.
BROOKS:
Remain alert until further notice.
BROOKS stands for a few moments and stares at the floor while
the shimmer of an active camouflage creeps up behind him. He
looks up for a moment, and the shimmer stops. In a single,
smooth movement, BROOKS unloads his rifle into the shimmer,
which fades into a black-armoured soldier and falls to the
ground. The sound of the assault rifle alerts the enemy
soldiers in the are.
BROOKS:
Black Team, cover's blown. go
straight to the suspect's location.
HICKORY and BEKEN sprint straight toward the north end of the
tower, stopping only to take down two enemy soldiers before
advancing forward.

At the north end of the tower, BROOKS enters from the right,
and silently moves to behind cover, about five metres away
from an enemy soldier and what appears to be a scientist. He
also sees HICKORY and BEKEN taking cover on the left side of
the room. He signals them to come out of cover and take down
the soldier.
The scientist stumbles back in shock of the soldier next to
him falling suddenly before turning around to find BROOKS,
HICKORY and BEKEN facing infront of him, weapons drawn.
BROOKS:
End of the line, THOM.
HICKORY:
You know him?
BROOKS:
THOMAS HOLBURK. He engineered an OS
for REC's computers before they fired
him.
BEKEN:
And now he have him cornered.
BROOKS:
Indeed.
HICKORY:
And why did we need to find a
programmer?
BROOKS:
He's part of R&D for and organisation
making WMDs.
HICKORY:
Terrorists?
BROOKS:
Precis-
A deafening bang is heard and the three soldiers are vaulted
backwards into the back wall of the room. Holburk had drawn a
hand grenade.
BROOKS:
Son of a bitch! What the fuck was
that!?
HICKORY:
I think he killed hmself.
BROOKS:
No fucking shit, go get the hard
drives frome the computers if they
aren't fried.
HICKORY and BEKEN sprint over to the scorched computers behind
where HOLBURK was standing, rushing to remove any form of

storage from the computers to no avail.
BROOKS:
Anything?
HICKORY:
Nothing, completely torched...Why do
we even need his data?
BROOKS:
I'm hoping there would be some
blueprints, maybe. Maybe stuff on who
he was working for?
HICKORY:
Yeah, I get you. Anything, BEKEN?
BEKEN:
Nothing.
BROOKS:
Fuck. Come on, we gotta move. You're
writing the report, BEKEN.
