This is a short guide on how to write a thesis at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is aimed at students of engineering and science. A thesis may be analyzed into three S’s: structure, substance and style. Structure confers logical coherence; substance, significance and depth; and style, elegance and appeal.

State your hypothesis clearly, ensuring that it is both reasonable and testable. Keep meticulous records and write up rough drafts of your work as you go along. Begin writing your thesis proper with the experimental chapters. Progress to the literature review, introduction and conclusions. Write the summary or abstract last, after writing the conclusions.

Write clearly and directly, with the reader’s expectations always in mind. Lead the reader from the known to the unknown. Write clearly, precisely and briefly. Think, plan, write, and revise. Follow layout guidelines and check spelling and grammar. Re-read, seek criticism, and revise. Submit your best effort as your completed thesis.

They all apply the inquiry process to the research necessary in their careers. Most professions have common skills that are required for success, such as critical and creative thinking involving gaining, applying, and communicating knowledge. Working collaboratively and contributing are common themes in education, science, and technology. These common themes involve habits of mind such as curiosity, open-mindedness balanced with skepticism, a sense of stewardship and care, respect for evidence, and persistence. All these skills and themes are integral parts of doing a science fair project and help to prepare you for a changing technological world.

It supersedes the 2000 Guide to Contraindications to Childhood Vaccination and, unlike that and previous Guides, contains information on all licensed U.S. vaccines, not just pediatric vaccines.
The Guide is arranged alphabetically according to symptoms and conditons that may, correctly or not, be perceived as contraindications to vaccination. The first column states the symptom or condition. The second column lists individual vaccines, when recommendations differ by vaccine.
The days and weeks after a homecoming from war can be filled with excitement, relief, and many other feelings. This guide is for military family members, like you. This guide is also helpful for friends and returning veterans themselves. Following the veterans return from overseas duty, the entire family will go through a transition. This guide will help each of you understand readjustment during homecoming.

Reintegration following homecoming involves taking time for the veteran, family and friends to become reacquainted. Talk and listen to one another to restore trust, support and closeness. There may be times when you and your returning veteran feel stress, uncertainty, concern, and distance from one another. It may feel as if the service member is still fighting a war, rather than truly being home. All of these emotions are a normal part of readjustment following deployment to a war zone. At first, these reactions may be difficult to deal with. Some service members have real difficulties and struggle during their transitions back home. Because many service members face redeployment back to overseas duty, it is especially important to address these difficulties during this time back home. Learning more can help your family cope. In this guide you will learn about:
* How expectations about homecoming may not be the same for service members and family members
* Ways to talk and listen to one another in order to reestablish trust, closeness and openness
* Information about possible problems to watch out for
* How to offer and find assistance for your loved ones
* What help is available and what it involves

A common expectation is that the family will be exactly the same as it was before the deployment. However, during deployment families naturally change. Children have grown and spouses have taken on new responsibilities. New friendships may have formed. War zone exposure is a life changing experience for those deployed. Understanding what you might expect will help with the transition back to civilian life. In this guide you will learn ways to cope better, and if problems arise, ways to find assistance.

Java includes a huge number of built-in classes and interfaces. The programmer can use already existing class as is, create subclasses to modify existing classes, or implement interfaces to augment the capabilities of classes.

In chapter 2 we give the basic concepts in Java. The given programs are very helpful for the beginners. They are also the building blocks for more complex applications. The widely used String class and the classes StringTokenizer and StringBuffer are introduced. Chapter 3 is devoted to classes and objects. Furthermore the wrapper classes, the container class Vector, the class Math for doing mathematics and the BigInteger and BigDecimal classes are introduced. The Object class is the ancestor of all classes and discussed in detail in section 3.6. Finally the this object is explained in detail. Chapter 4 deals with inheritance and abstract classes. The graphical user interface (GUI) is discussed in chapter 5 and a number of examples are provided. Chapter 6 introduces exception handling. File manipulations for reading from file and writing to files are introduced in chapter 7. Java is able to produce multi-threaded applications, which often form a part of applications including animations. Threads are discussed in chapter 8 and application of threads in animation are given in chapter 9. An introduction into networking together with a number of programs is given in chapter 10. Chapters 11 and 12 deal with the additions to Java for the version 1.2. Finally chapter 13 lists important Web sites for Java, JavaScript and HTML.

The level of presentation is such that one can study the subject early on in ones education in programming. There is a balance between practical programming and the underlying language. The book is ideally suited for use in lectures on Java and object-oriented programming. The beginner will also benefit from the book. The reference list gives a collection of textbooks useful in the study of the computer language Java. There are a number of good textbooks for Java available [1], [2]. For applications of Java in science we refer to Tan Kiat Shi, W.-H. Steeb and Yorick Hardy [6] and Steeb [5]. Comprehensive introductions into JavaScript are given by [3] and [4].
